WVU women’s basketball signs 6 recruits

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia women’s basketball coach Mike Carey has signed six recruits for next season.

Carey said Wednesday he’s signed forward Marlena Schmidt, guard-forward Anja Martin, and guards Tynice Martin, Katrina Pardee, Yassemeen Sa’Dullah and Lauren Saiki.

The 6-foot-6 Schmidt averaged nearly 12 points, eight rebounds and five blocked shots per game last season at Ringgold High in Monongahela, Pennsylvania.

Anja Martin averaged nearly 15 points, six rebounds and three steals at Stevens High in San Antonio.

Tynice Martin attends Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy and helped her previous school, Southwest DeKalb, win a 2013 Georgia state championship.

Pardee attends Vista Ridge High School in Cedar Park, Texas, and Sa’Dullah attends Burbank (California) High School. Saiki missed most of last season at Mark Keppel High in Alhambra, California, with a knee injury.
