Weekend TV: ‘Blue Bloods,’ ‘Simpsons’

In Friday's season premiere of 'Blue Bloods,' Lt. Gormley (Robert Clohessy), left, police commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck), DCPI Garrett Moore (Gregory Jbara), Abigail Baker (Abigail Hawk) are dealing with a potential threat to New York City.

Blue Bloods.

CBS, Friday, 10 ET/PT.

One of TV’s unsung successes returns, as Blue Bloods caps off CBS’s Friday lineup with the launch of its sixth season. Blue Bloods is not a show that is ever going to draw a lot of critical attention, or, probably, younger viewers — but it seems to keep its viewers happy and it certainly keeps a host of very fine actors gainfully employed. And these days, who can argue against gainful employment?

The Simpsons.

Fox, Sunday, 8 ET/PT.

The Simpsons return, for their 27th season– but this time, they’re coming back with Homer and Marge going through a trial separation. Those of us who prefer to see our cartoon characters live happily ever after need only keep this in mind: Marge and Homer have had their splits and flings before. Fate, love, and commercial necessities always seem to bring them back together.

CBS, Sunday, 9 ET/PT.

CSI wraps up its 15-year run with a special two-hour finale that features many of the show’s present and past stars, including William Petersen, Marg Helgenberger, Eric Szmanda and Paul Guilfoyle (but not George Eads). Its years as TV’s most popular series may be long past, but if ever a show deserved a proper sendoff, it’s CSI — a series that launched the modern crime-show procedural and its network’s ratings dominance.
