WASHINGTON — On this, there is no partisan divide.

For many, Memorial Day marks the traditional start of summer, so USA TODAY’s Capital Download has been asking newsmakers to relate their favorite summer memories. For nearly everyone, they revolve around family.

Rep. Joseph Kennedy III, D-Mass., Talked about getting together with his cousins for the Fourth of July on Cape Cod. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., Recalled a rare family trip to the shore, and the blistering sunburn he suffered. White House national security adviser Susan Rice remembered going to her grandparents’ house in Maine, when time seemed endless.

And Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., Believe it or not, says his favorite summer memories are of baling hay on his family’s farm.
